The Do's & Don'ts of Rugs

Unrolling the Carpet

Rugs are the finishing touch to any room. When working with a client on a room, Laura Hill with LH Creations says she puts the rug at the end of the list because it really needs to be the final touch. She goes on to say, the rug needs to compliment a room and observing the style of the room is key to picking the rug size, color and placement. Other factors include the furniture and home itself.

If you are looking for a cozy feel choose a rug that fits in the middle of the conversational area. For a larger more open feel choose a rug that fits underneath all the furniture.

Remember, rugs aren't limited to living rooms and dens. Consider a rug to fit under your dining room table but make sure its not too big and doesn't overpower it. This will give your dining room a nice look. Bedrooms are anoter great place for a rug. Just remember the same rule and don't let the rug take away from the bed.

When it comes to patterns, Laura says if you already have a lot of small busy patterns in a room then a solid rug or larger pattern may be your best option but don't be affraid of patterns. They can really make your room pop. In the end, Laura says a rug can create harmony in a room and be a great addition but also a big committment so choose wisely or let Laura with LH Creations do it for you!
